SW 32nd Street Extension and Realignment Project

This project is complete.

The SW 32nd Street Extension and Realignment project was the first of several projects of the city’s five-year road improvement plan to be completed under the agreement for professional services with Balfour Beatty Construction formally known as Centex Construction. The road project realigned SW 32nd Street to Chiquita Boulevard and extended SW 32nd Street to Chiquita as well. It allows for a straight access to Gleason Parkway on the east.

Completed in December of 2005, this project now provides connectivity and smoother flow of traffic due to increased residential development and institutional development in the area. The new construction includes new curbs, gutters and sidewalks and the newly placed traffic signal will allow for safer pedestrian traffic.  The intersection is within walking distance of Gulf Elementary School, Gulf Middle School and Ida S. Baker High School, which opened in August of 2005.

The construction project began in May 2005 and was completed within schedule, within budget and with no lost-time accidents.
